A Bangladeshi national was caught by personnel of the 4th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya in possession of Rs 4 lakh in cash while attempting to cross the international border illegally yesterday.
The man was identified as Md Iqbal Miah (45), a resident of Sylhet. He was apprehended near the Dawki boating point while trying to cross over into Bangladesh “in an illicit manner”, the BSF informed today, adding that the source of the money has yet to be ascertained.
The seized Indian currency and apprehended person were handed over to Dawki police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
