The District Magistrate of Ri-Bhoi has passed an order under Section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting unauthorised persons or groups from conducting checking of vehicles along national highways.
The order was passed after the authorities came to learn that individuals and groups are carrying out their own checks of loaded vehicles without due permission of the authorities. Such acts could lead to a breakdown in law and order and endanger human life through confrontation, the District Magistrate said.
