A two-day awareness programme on substance (drugs/alcohol) abuse was organised at the Don Bosco College Higher Secondary Section Tura, which concluded today.
About 700 students attended the programme conducted in the college campus by the legal and medical experts of the Association of Past Pupils of Don Bosco, Tura unit.
The programme started with a word of encouragement and welcome by Principal Fr. Jogesh B Sangma.
The awareness workshop was headed by Roger Benny A Sangma, the Secretary of the association and his professional team. His team comprises of Nomitha K Sangma, Psychologist & Counsellor, DEIC, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Twinkle D Sangma, advocate, Dipu N Marak, Vice- President, APPDB, David Ch Marak, Adviser, APPDB and Hilarius Ch Sangma, president of the association.
The topics include substance drug abuse, commonly abuse drugs, why do people take drugs, signs and symptoms, and preventive aspects etc. The workshop also covered the legal consequences since drug abuse is illegal and bane of the society. How to choose life rather than spoiling their life, the resource person also encourages students not to indulge in this kind of bad activities.
The workshop ended on a positive notes students chanting “Say Yes to Life and Say No to Drugs” and had promise the college authority not to indulge in any kind of bad activities inside the campus as well outside the campus.
Strict monitor has been under placed inside the campus to check anti social elements so that students will not be easily carried away. The session also covered the topic on how to used the students time wisely and focus in their career and their goals.
