Shillong, Nov 17: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly conducted an inspection of four major health facilities in the city on Monday.
The committee visited Civil Hospital Shillong, Ganesh Das Hospital, the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), and Super Care Hospital.
During the inspection, the committee engaged with hospital authorities and MHIS personnel to assess administrative processes, beneficiary experiences, and systemic challenges impacting the effective delivery of the scheme.
PAC Chairperson Miani D. Shira stated that the inspection was undertaken to gain a realistic understanding of MHIS operations across government, central, and private hospitals. She noted that while the scheme is comprehensive in design, hospitals continue to face operational challenges that directly affect service delivery.
She emphasised the committee’s commitment to ensuring that MHIS services remain accessible, efficient, and citizen-friendly, free from unnecessary procedural hurdles. She further highlighted that the Committee held detailed discussions with hospital authorities and MHIS officials, documenting challenges and identifying actionable areas for improvement.
The PAC will compile its findings and submit recommendations to the concerned departments to strengthen the efficiency and user-friendliness of MHIS implementation.
