The Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees Engineers & Pensioners, Assam (CCOEEEP) has extended its support to the electricity employees of the Electricity Employees of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
MeECL employees under the Co-ordination Committee of Registered MeECL (Employee) Associations & Unions (CCORMAU) have called for a series of agitations which began on Tuesday.
CCOEEEP said that they stand with the legitimate demands of CCORMAU and has urged the government to amicably settle the issues for the interest of the State and to avoid any unrest in the industry.
Meanwhile, seven workers’ organisations in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL) held a hunger strike at the company’s compound in Tura yesterday and today.
The President of the All MeECL Employees (Staff) Union (AMESU) issued a statement to the press saying that this is the first time in the history of the company that employee salaries have not been paid for multiple months.
Further action has been promised if the salaries remain unreleased.
A month’s dues for the lower grades of employees have been paid, but the first grade are yet to receive anything, the statement said.
