Whenever I witness the heartbreaking images of floods in Assam, I am filled with a deep sense of sorrow. The rising waters do not merely destroy homes; they sweep away the dreams, memories, and years of dedication and hard work built by thousands of families.
Assam and floods have, over the years, become closely linked. Every year, the mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries bring both sustenance and challenges to this beautiful land. This year too, several parts of Assam, including Sivasagar, are grappling with a distressing situation. Numerous families have lost their homes, crops, livestock, and essential belongings, leaving their lives deeply affected.
The crisis has been further aggravated by the cloudburst in Nagaland, which triggered sudden floods and left many people with little or no time to seek safety. Several precious lives have been lost, while many others remain missing, leaving families devastated and in deep anguish.
The pain of flood victims cannot be measured only by the loss of houses. Many students have lost their books and educational materials. Many young people have lost certificates and important documents needed for their future. Farmers have lost their crops and years of hard work. Many domestic animals have also lost their lives.
Behind every flooded village is a human story — a mother struggling to feed her children, an elderly person searching for shelter, and a farmer watching his dreams disappear under the water.
Floods are not merely a natural disaster; they become a social and economic crisis. Even after the water recedes, people need food, clean drinking water, medicines, shelter, educational support, and assistance to rebuild their lives.
I believe Assam’s flood crisis deserves the attention and compassion of the entire nation. India is one family, and when one part suffers, the whole nation should stand together. Even a small contribution from many people can bring hope to those who have lost everything.
However, relief alone is not enough. Assam needs long-term solutions — scientific river management, stronger embankments, improved flood forecasting, erosion control, and sustainable policies to protect future generations.
The people of Assam are known for their courage and resilience. They rebuild their lives after every disaster, but they should not have to fight alone.
I sincerely appeal to every citizen of India: please remember the flood victims of Assam. Share their stories, support genuine relief efforts, and stand with those who need help.
A nation becomes truly strong not only through development but also through the compassion and humanity of its people.
Let us come together to bring hope, dignity, and a new beginning to the flood-affected people of Assam.
