Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma today officially inaugurated the Arts Stream at Jirang Government Higher Secondary School, Ri Bhoi district.
Speaking on the occasion, Sangma said the State government is not only focused on bringing development and transformation to the state but also has a dedicated goal of uplifting the education sector.
“In just five years of governance, this administration has established up to 21 People’s Colleges across the state, and soon the government will also set up Model Degree Colleges in East Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills,” he said.
He assured that efforts will be made to introduce commerce stream so that students can have access to higher education within their own regions and communities.
The minister also inspected the Degree Model College at Patharkhmah and the Eklavya Model Residential School at Jirang. These institutions are aimed at promoting education and intellectual development among the youth in the region and the state as a whole.
Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, Director of Education B.J. Kharshandi, government officials, village leaders, school children, teachers, and residents of the Jirang area were present on the occasion.
