The Arts and Culture Department will help the Seng Khasi Mawsynram repair certain infrastructure that had fallen into disrepair.
A delegation of the Seng Khasi, accompanied by Mawsynram MLA Himalaya Shangpliang, submitted a memorandum requesting assistance to the department.
It wants help to rebuild a conference hall, toilets and dressing rooms, etc.
Shangpliang told reporters that the Seng Khasi has sought for government assistance as rural units of the Seng Khasi lack funds.
“We are happy to learn that the Arts and Culture Minister, Sanbor Shullai, has assured to support this appeal of the Seng Khasi even though we could not meet him in person today,” he said, adding the Commissioner and Secretary of Arts and Culture, Frederick Roy Kharkongor, assured that the department’s technical wing will be sent to Mawsynram for inspection and to make the required plans and prepare estimates.
Shangpliang also said, that with the state elections coming soon and with limited time before the Model Code of Conduct comes into force, which would prevent beginning new work like this, he has requested the government to sanction the repairs at the earliest.
