As part of its desire to support the youth of Meghalaya, the Lumsohphoh Youth Society opened the Shillong Mega Expo 2022 here at Dhanketi with support from the Union Ministry of Textiles.
The expo will run until September 9. It was opened by Nongthymmai MLA Charles Pyngrope yesterday in the presence of Lumsohphoh Jingkieng Nongthymmai headman Aplang Jana Nongbet.
Speaking to reporters, Pyngrope said that this is a platform for weavers, artisans and other youth who are experts in handicrafts to showcase their products.
The opposition politician said that Meghalaya youth have few other ways to earn a living, so they need plenty of support to promote their skills, talent and goods, which are all natural and are products of the land.
Pyngrope also lauded the Lumsohphoh Youth Society for coming up with the idea for the expo.
There are more than 30 stalls with half of these featuring products from Khasi-Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills, with the rest from other parts of the North East, LYS general secretary Kenny Kharbithai informed.
