The Shillong chapter of Art of Living celebrated the 67th birthday of its founder, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar yesterday by organising a blood donation camp and evening gala with more than 200 invitees.
Like every year, the AOL Shillong chapter organised many social services and programmes in tune with the organisation’s ideology of “Sadhna, Seva and Satsang” as the big day came closer.
Clothes were donated to the Shillong District Jail on May 7 for the 250 male and 15 female inmates. Workers from AOL visited the Shillong Civil Hospital on May 11, where they interacted with the patients with no family or friends and who have been abandoned by society. The interaction included spending time with the patients, providing them with some food, snacks and health drinks while enquiring about their needs and requirements. Some patients who needed prescribed medicines and food as they had no financial aid were provided with the necessities.
Yesterday’s blood donation was organised at the Art of Living Seva Centre at Barapathar from 10am to 3pm in collaboration with the Regional Blood Bank, Pasteur Institute where more than 35 units were collected.
The AOL and Pasteur Institute have been involved in organizing numerous similar camps.
A musical evening gala was also held at the Rilbong Centre of Art of Living in the evening where the celebrations included satsang, gurupuja, cake cutting and distribution of prasadam to more than 200 people present. Saplings were distributed to all attendees for planting in or around their homes as a gift for Gurudev on his birthday.
