A timber bridge connecting the village of Ruga to others parts of Garo Hills was allegedly set on fire by unidentified miscreants late last night, leading to the bridge being closed to heavy traffic since the incident.
The village is part of South Garo Hills with the bridge connecting the village to Dimapara and further on to National Highway 62. The incident reportedly took place at around 10:30 pm yesterday.
According to reports, the fire was quickly doused by alert villagers, though some damage had already been done by then.
The bridge, according to locals, was already in a dilapidated state even before this incident.
