Shillong, Jun 26: The body of another dead dog was recovered in Laban, the latest victim in a suspected string of poisonings.
The carcass was found among some bamboo in the area near Laban Circuit House yesterday.
Volunteers Josephine Hujon and Buddha Dey were present to witness the recovery along with Inspector G Khan and the municipal team. The carcass was taken to Garikhana Veterinary Hospital for post-mortem; the results are awaited to confirm whether it was indeed poisoned.
A dozen stray dogs as well as several birds and cats have died in the mass poisoning.
A violet-blue substance found mixed with rice at various places near the Circuit House was the poison, it is suspected. Police are investigating but no arrests have been made so far.
