The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has said that additional land of 22 acres was required at Umroi airport for accommodating larger aircraft. It also said that SpiceJet has agreed to operate flights at the airport.
During hearing in the Meghalaya High Court today, the AAI in a communication submitted to the court stated that as per LiDAR survey report after examining different scenarios, a few alterations were required including additional land acquisition of 22 acres to make the airport viable for accommodating larger aircraft.
The AAI also indicated in the communication that consent has also been given by SpiceJet for the operation of B737 aircraft at Umroi airport.
Deputy Solicitor General Dr. N. Mozika who appeared on behalf of the AAI requested the court to allow him to bring on record the detailed LiDAR survey report which is voluminous.
Advocate General of Meghalaya Amit Kumar told the court that once the report is placed, the modalities for implementation of the same will be worked out and presented before the court.
The High Court in its order directed for placing of the report within a period of ten days. The next hearing on the matter will be held on September 16.
