The Lok Sabha candidates of the NPP and Congress for the Shillong seat skipped the debate convened by Sankardev College here today.
The symposium was organised for all candidates of the upcoming Lok Sabha election at the college.
However, much to the chagrin of the debate organisers, the NPP candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh and sitting Congress MP Vincent H. Pala did not make it.
What was more shocking to the organisers was that the NPP candidate did not send any representative from her party to take her place at the debate.
The Congress was however represented by its secretary Manuel Badwar.
According to sources, Pala had to rush to New Delhi for some works. However, Lyngdoh was in Thangsning village under Mawkynrew constituency for her election campaign.
The BJP which was yet to announce its candidates from Meghalaya was represented by its spokesman Mariahom Kharkrang.
Other candidates who included Ricky A J Syngkon of VPP, Robertjune Kharjahrin of UDP and independent candidate Lakhon Kma took part in the debate.
Moderated by Dr. S Maxwell Lyngdoh, the symposium saw the three candidates and representatives of the Congress and BJP presenting their stand on the political scenario in the State and the issues that they would take up in the election.
