The All Meghalaya Minority Students’ Union (AMMSU) has written to the Education Department seeking the scrapping of the newly-formed school managing committee (SMC) of the Hallidayganj Deficit Under Primary School, which, it said, was formed illegally.
In a complaint to the School Education Officer on May 24, AMMSU’s Hallidayganj unit alleged that the SMC was formed without a public meeting.
“The SMC has been formed without any meeting with the same pending for over 12 years now. This is objectionable and highly irregular,” said the AMMSU members.
According to the complaint, the illegal SMC was formed after the retirement of the headmaster of the school and the menial worker. Their retirement opened up two requirements and thus the SMC was formed.
The NGO blamed vested interests in the sudden SMC formation, which they alleged was hurriedly done to allow their relatives and family get the two vacant posts.
“The new SMC was formed in conjunction with the new headmaster and this was done with an ulterior motive to deny locals the chance of employment. They only wanted to put their people in the job,” added AMMSU.
