Shillong, Apr 12: As part of its golden jubilee celebrations, the office of the Amlarem Sub-Divisional Officer organised an exposure visit to Mawlai Mawroh and the Marten Waste Processing and Disposal Site (MWPDS), Shillong.
The visit aimed to educate community leaders, women’s groups and local stakeholders on modern waste management practices.
Cabinet minister and Amlarem MLA Lahkmen Rymbui emphasised the importance of systematic waste management, stating, “No matter how clean a village or town may appear, it will have little meaning if there is no proper system in place to manage waste.”
He highlighted the potential for employment and income generation through waste management.
The Marten dump handles 200 tonnes of waste daily, with 185 tonnes processed, producing compost, recyclable materials and energy.
Officials showcased the different facilities, including a compost plant, faecal sludge treatment plant and incineration plant to the 25 community leaders.
