Former Home Minister, RG Lyngdoh, has stated that it is the duty of all MLAs to pursue and fight for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.
“It was the 60 MLAs who passed the resolution on ILP in the Assembly, so it is their duty to agitate for the implementation of it. Why they are quiet on this insult to them?” he told Highland Post.
He was referring to apparent lack of commitment towards the subject shown by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national general secretary Arun Singh during their recent visits to the state.
“If our MLAs have studied the feasibility of the implementation of the ILP in the state and passed a resolution unanimously, then it is they who have to follow up, agitate and shout on the issue and see why their decision cannot be realised,” Lyngdoh said, adding that in their absence the pressure groups are agitating on the issue.
He said that the silent attitude of Shah on the implementation of ILP in Meghalaya shows what the central government thinks of the state.
Such an attitude would not be possible of Meghalaya was a bigger state and, therefore, this makes it important that the North East act as one bloc with its 25 MPs, Lyngdoh opined.
