Employees of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL), under the banner of the Coordination Committee of Registered MeECL (Employees) Associations and Unions (CCORMAU) will take a decision on their next course of action in pressuring the state government to clear their pending salaries at a general meeting on December 11.
CCORMAU has previously threatened to plunge the state into darkness if its demands are not met.
The workers’ demands include that October salaries are to be paid by December 4, November salaries by December 10 and all subsequent salaries by the fifth of every month.
CCORMAU also called for a “comprehensive plan” to revive the cash strapped MeECL, which should include going after defaulters, especially big corporations that have not paid their bills.
