One MBBS candidate has been denied a reserved seat under the state quota after the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills reviewed the issuance of their antecedents.
To be eligible for a seat, the applicant has to have a permanent resident certificate (PRC) of Meghalaya but at least 10 were found to only have provisional PRCs.
After complaints, the state government asked the DCs to review these provisional certificates and state categorically whether the applicants that were issued them are eligible for proper PRCs.
“The DC has reviewed the issuance of the provisional PRC and has deemed it fit to disqualify the candidate for not being eligible for issuance of PRC,” Lyngdoh said, adding that the seat will be duly accorded to the next person in the waiting list of the unreserved category.
“A permanent residence certificate is a permanent residence certificate. We had gone through the law and it was decided that all these provisional PRCs should be sent back to the DCs and they should decide for once and for all whether or not these candidates were eligible to be given the seats and, in that exercise, one from East Jaintia Hills was denied the seat,” the minister explained.
