Concerned over the perennial traffic congestion in the busy Motphran of the city, North Shillong legislator Adelbert Nongrum today inspected the area along with rangbah shnongs of the surrounding areas along with Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Kamakhya Prasad.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Nongrum urged for “mass participation” of all stakeholders to decongest the area of vehicular traffic.
The MLA during his inspection found that the taxi drivers indulge in embarkment and disembarkment of passengers wherever they wished to, all along the route from Jaiaw to Motphran thereby leading to congestion and traffic jam.
He urged local cab drivers to avoid contributing to unnecessary traffic jams by queuing for extended periods and encouraged the public to cooperate and adhere to similar principles, fostering a collective responsibility to alleviate traffic congestion in the area.
He also said that it was decided that vehicles going to Motphran from Jaiaw should not divert towards Riatsamthiah locality but take the route directly to the commercial hub.
Meanwhile, Rangbah Shnong of Mawkhar, Arwan Tariang has urged the public not to embark from the point which leads to Mission Compound.
Tariang also urged the public to cooperate with the traffic police department manning the points along the route.
