Social activists, Greneth Sangma and Francis R Marak, under the banner of Constitutional Rights Forum (CRF) have filed a FIR against West Garo Hills deputy commissioner, Ram Singh and the District Sports Officer (DSO) over violation of COVID guidelines in the recently concluded pre Independence Day marathon held in Tura.
In the FIR filed today at the Tura police station, the activists alleged that during the ‘Freedom Run’ organised by the administration, COVID protocols were violated completely despite the administration itself asking for its adherence.
“There were hundreds of people who gathered at New Tura without any social distancing or wearing masks, which can be clearly seen in the pictures uploaded by the district administration itself,” said the activists in the FIR.
The activists asked for the police administration to register a regular case under appropriate sections of the law against the DSO and DC for giving permission for the organization of such an event that violated all SOPs of the state for COVID.
