ACHIK, the A’chik Conscious Holistic Integrated Krima, has written to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong to petition the state government over two of its demands, namely that Tura be named Meghalaya’s winter capital and that the roster system to administer the state’s reservation policy be applied with 1972 as the cut-off date.
The two issues are key to ACHIK’s raison d’etre and have been raised by the organisation several times in the previous few weeks. .
“The A’chik people have suffered for far too long, and it is time for their voices to be heard,” it said in the letter to Tynsong.
On the roster system, which Khasi Hills-based political parties and pressure groups argue should only be prospective in application and not retrospective, ACHIK said that it will hold rallies and demonstrations if any “injustice” is done to the Garo people and could even take the issue right up to the Supreme Court.
