With the aim of spreading awareness about Meghalaya’s cultural festivals to the wider national community, the state unit of the right-wing students’ body, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), facilitated an exposure trip for students from outside Meghalaya studying in Shillong to experience the Chad Sukra.
This festival is an important one to the Pnar community of the state and is held during the sowing season.
ABVP Meghalaya organised the trip for 40 students enrolled in different national institutes in Shillong.
These students were invited to attend the Chad Sukra festival held in Jowai. The primary objective of this initiative was to familiarise students from various parts of the country with the local festival of Chad Sukra.
By experiencing this cultural event firsthand, students gain insight into the customs, traditions and cultural richness of Meghalaya, a press release stated today. “By participating in the Chad Shukra festival, students become brand ambassadors for Meghalaya when they return to their respective hometowns,” it added.
