The Achik Association For Protection of Environment (AAPE) today West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe with issues concerning the district headquarter for him to take action.
The association led by its president, Salgrak R Marak had a brief discussion on the issues plaguing Tura town. They dwelt on the rejuvenation of the stream which flows down from Tura peak to areas of Babupara, Police Reserve, Bamonpara and others to which they suggested that a strict public order may be issued to prevent further pollution of the stream.
Pointing out that deforestation, unregulated mining of minor minerals et al is posing a serious concern to the state in general and West Garo Hills in particular the association urged the DC to address the issue.
They also suggested installation of waste bins in Tura town.
The association also wants Tembe to hold consultations with stakeholders and the public on waste management and other initiatives that the district administration will undertake.
