Meghalaya Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar today announced that he will convene a bi-monthly review meeting to assess progress, address challenges, and accelerate efforts towards a TB-free Meghalaya.
Chairing a review meeting on the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) at the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, the Governor assured that all necessary support will be extended and said he is committed to personally provide nutritional kits for 150 TB patients for a period of six months.
He called for intensified TB screening and testing by holding health camps, timely disbursal of Nikshay Poshan Yojana benefits and nutritional kits, promotion of Nikshay Mitras to encourage voluntary participation, target interventions for vulnerable populations, and strengthening of awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and communities to reduce stigma as well as to promote early health-seeking behaviour.
The Governor stressed on compassion and determination in the fight against tuberculosis.
The State was represented by Ramakrishna Chitturi, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Commissioner & Secretary BDR Tiwari, State TB Officer Dr. Merimai Syiemlieh, and TB officials.
