Shillong, Jul 29: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated two outdoor gymnasiums in Tura, at Goanang locality and at Nehru Park.
Speaking on the occasion, he informed that five open gymnasiums are coming up in Tura town.
The chief minister said that the open gymnasiums are being established across the state, to give people an opportunity to have a healthy lifestyle.
He also informed that the Tura Botanical Garden at Goanang locality is being developed, with creation of walking pathways, canopy walk and a cafeteria at Rs 3.8 crore. The Nehru Park Tura will be developed with the creation of different infrastructure and facilities for recreation, learning and engagement of visitors with different outdoor activities, he added.
During his day-long visit to Tura, he also laid the foundation for an additional classroom for Bidanchi Higher Secondary School. The construction is being funded by the Chief Minister’s Special Development at Rs 10 lakhs.
He also handed over sanction letters to different social organisations at Tura, amounting to over Rs 80 lakh for 12 development organisations and educational institutes.
Later in the day, he also inspected the ongoing construction of the Indoor Stadium at Sunny Hills locality. He directed the sports department to ensure its completion by December and hold different indoor events like Badminton. The indoor stadium is being completed with a focus to host the upcoming 39th National Games.
He informed that Tura will co-host various disciplines for the National Games and in view of that the government will encourage and support 10-roomed homestays in Tura, rather than constructing a games village.
He also laid the foundation for the skating arena at Tetengkol locality in Tura. The skating area is being developed by the Global Himalayan Expedition.
