Shillong, Jul 28: Taking note of roads that have been turned dirty and slippery by trucks spilling mud and/or stones, the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills has passed a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the BNSS to curb this problem.
Overloaded trucks carrying stones often spill their contents on the roads, which is dangerous for other vehicles and pedestrians. Trucks emerging from construction sites often also have their tyres caked in mud, which they then drag over and deposit on public streets. When this dries out it kicks up a lot of dust, which is unpleasant to breathe, and when the rains come it turns to slush that poses a danger for other vehicles.
The DC thus ordered that trucks cover their loaded materials with tarpaulin to avoid spillage and spray their tyres with water while exiting work sites to remove them of mud.
Any violation of this order will incur punishment under Sec 223 of the BNS. The order came into force today and will remain in place until further orders.
