Shillong, Jul 27: On Sunday members of the Conference of Religious India (CRI), Shillong unit, representing various religious congregations, visited Mercy Home to celebrate the Day for the Elderly and Grandparents. This special visit was part of the Jubilee Year 2025 celebrations, emphasising gratitude and honoring the wisdom and dignity of the elderly.
The programme was anchored by Sr Chiruplang Swer from St Edmund’s College Laudato Si’ Society and featured a series of uplifting songs, prayers and messages in Hindi, Khasi and English. The participation of the Stephen Hall boys, Auxilium pre-aspirants, Loreto Hostel girls, and the Mercy Home inmates added rich cultural and emotional depth to the occasion.
During the event, CRI President Br Sunil Britto addressed the elders, saying, “We know that sometimes loneliness and physical weakness may touch your hearts, but please remember you are deeply loved by God and by all of us here. Your stories, your faith, and your prayers are an inspiring legacy that lights the way for younger generations.”
The positive experience of all reinforced the importance of valuing and cherishing the elderly as a vital source of faith and wisdom within the community, perfectly reflecting the Jubilee Year’s spirit of hope, solidarity, and care.
