Mawkynrew MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh has written to Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal urging him to resolve recurrent power cuts and inclusion of the constituency under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
Lyngdoh said that the residents of his constituency are continually affected by frequent and prolonged power cuts. “The root cause of these disruptions appears to be the repeated damage of transformers in various localities,” he added.
He highlighted that when transformers are replaced, the new ones also tend to malfunction or break down within a short span of time, leading to further distress among the people.
“This situation has made daily life extremely difficult, particularly for students, elderly citizens and small businesses that depend heavily on a stable electricity supply,” Lyngdoh stated.
He also said that it is especially disheartening to see communities living without reliable power despite repeated requests and temporary repairs.
Lyngdoh requested the Power Minister’s intervention to conduct a thorough assessment of the quality, capacity and installation of the transformers being supplied and installed in these areas.
He also urged Mondal to strengthen the local power infrastructure to ensure durability and safety of electrical distribution.
Meanwhile, Lyngdoh urged the department to consider the affected areas under his constituency for inclusion under the RDSS, which according to him is aimed at improving the quality and reliability of power supply in urban and rural areas alike.
The Mawkynrew legislator said that these areas to be included are – Thangsning, Thynroit, Mawlyngot, Jongksha, Kharang, Jatah Lakdong, Nohron, Lynshing, Mawlat aand Laitkyrhong.
“The implementation of RDSS in these areas will not only address the recurring transformer failures but also bring much needed relief and long term benefit to the people,” he said.
