A social activist has filed a FIR against one Sushil Guru and a youtuber Raghav Sharma for offensive remarks against the tribal community
Enlang Sawian, in a complaint lodged with Lumdiengjri Police said Guru had alleged that the indigenous hill tribes still practice human sacrifice and cannibalism as part of their ancient beliefs.
Reportedly, the comments were aired by the youtuber on June 13. The self-styled astrologer told the host of the podcast that in a so-called tribal village in Meghalaya, human sacrifice is part of ceremonial rituals.
“There is also one village in Meghalaya where human sacrifice still exists. The eldest of the village is sacrificed and his meat is distributed as prasad, which is eaten as they are tribals,” he said, further claiming that four people may enter a ritual, but only three will return to portray these acts as religious offerings rather than crimes.
The episode, which also touched on tantra, black magic, and spiritual practices, remains online and has garnered over 47,000 views.
Speaking to reporters, Enlang Sawian said such false and offensive claims made by Guru were disrespectful. “There has never been any incident of human sacrifice or cannibalism in our state. These are malicious lies that tarnish our image,” he said.
Sawian urged the police to take stringent action under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 and added that he would follow up the matter with the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes.
Sawian reiterated that such misinformation is not only defamatory but dangerous, as it promotes harmful stereotypes and communal misunderstanding.
