The A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) has reported a surge in applications for voter ID cards through fraudulent means in the Garo Hills region.
ACHIK in a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari stated that the surge in applications is particularly happening in Rajabala, Bhaitbari, Phulbari, and Tikrlkilla.
“A significant number of new applicants are allegedly availing Voter ID Cards through illegal means, including the submission of fake documents such as residential certificates and No objection Certificates (NOCs). These suspicious activities raise serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral process in these areas,” ACHIK General Secretary (Fields & Operations) Adam R. Sangma said.
The organisation has urged the CEO to initiate a thorough verification of all documents submitted by new applicants, particularly in those areas. “Ensuring the legitimacy of the documentation will not only safeguard the sanctity of the democratic process but also help prevent future complications related to illegal voter registration and identity fraud,” it said.
