The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITRO) has urged the State government to implement an efficient system for updating Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCCs).
In a letter to Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, the organisation suggested allowing direct uploads of PUCC information from Pollution Testing Stations (PTS) into the government database, eliminating the need for manual updates. This system is already in place in neighbouring Assam, it said.
HITO stated that the current manual process is a waste of resources and an inconvenience for vehicle owners. The proposed system would save time, reduce bureaucracy, and enhance transparency and accessibility.
The call comes after a public notice that mandates all vehicles carry a valid PUCC, with owners required to update their certificates at the District Transport Office (DTO). Failure to comply may result in blocked essential services, including tax payment and permit renewal.
