The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Khasi Hills district will lead the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan in two districts of the state and cover 108 villages through nine teams, officials said.
Ahead of the campaign, the KVK held a meeting with the village heads of Eastern West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills districts at Nongshillong.
The meeting was to generate awareness among the sordar about the campaign and to urge them to mobilise farmers in their respective villages.
Presentation on the works of KVK and Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan were highlighted by Dr. E. K. Marbaniang, Subject Matter Specialist (Agricultural Extension) and V. J. Lyngdoh, district Senior Scientist & Head, KVK.
The nationwide campaign will be launched from May 29 and will continue until June 12. It aims to create awareness among farmers about modern technology and new seed varieties.
The national campaign, spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, aims to engage 1 to 1.5 crore farmers across 700 districts through 2000 teams comprising scientists from ICAR Institutes and KVKs along with State Departments of Agriculture. Each team is expected to conduct three daily awareness campaigns per district, focusing on Kharif crop innovations and key government schemes.
