High Court proceedings against Meghalaya cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and other officials in the infamous “white ink” case is set to be completed soon.
It may be mentioned that the Lyngdoh and former Director of School Education Jeffrey Sangma had challenged the CBI chargesheet filed against them in the criminal case.
Senior Supreme Court lawyer Salman Khurshid who appeared for Lyngdoh has completed his arguments in the Meghalaya High Court in defence of his client.
During today’s hearing in the court, K Paul who is the lawyer for Jeffrey Sangma has sought the court’s permission to file a compilation containing the specific charges out of the countless charges in the CBI chargesheet.
The High Court bench of Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji, allowed Paul to file the compilation and directed him to submit the same by June 4.
The next hearing on the matter will be held on June 13.
It may be mentioned that the CBI had charge-sheeted Lyngdoh and retired government officials, J D Sangma and Ameka Lyngdoh for manipulating score sheets of candidates in the infamous Education Scam of 2009.
The High Court in 2017 ordered the CBI to take over the investigation registered by Meghalaya police relating to alleged mass manipulation, tampering score sheets and interference in the selection of assistant teachers in lower primary schools in 2008-09.
