More than 8 out of every 10 students who sat the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations passed, according to the results that were released today.
A total of 22,835 students appeared in the Arts stream, out of which 18,736 passed (82.05 per cent). Thirteen students shared the first 10 positions. The pass percentage this year was up from 79.77 in 2024. St Edmund’s Higher Secondary School in Shillong claimed six of the top 10 spots.
Albert Mate and Idawanplishisha Swer of St Edmund’s secured first position with 455 marks each. Second position was secured by Nelly Mary Khymdeit of St Paul’s Higher Secondary School in Nongpoh and third position was taken by Safilia Wahlang of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong.
In the Science stream, out of the 3,922 students who appeared a total of 3,253 passed (82.94 per cent), which was down from 2024’s figure of 85.24 per cent. Fourteen students shared the top 10 positions with St Anthony’s claiming six spots.
Saptarshi Bhattacharjee of Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong secured first position with 483 marks and second position went to Drishana Roychoudhary of St Anthony’s with 477 marks. Third position was taken by Shweta Sharma of St Anthony’s with 473 marks.
In the Commerce stream, out of the 2,501 students who appeared in the examination a total of 2,033 passed (81.28 per cent), a slight increase on 2024’s 80.43 per cent. Thirteen students made it to the top 10.
Disha Chokani of St Anthony’s secured first position with 481 marks, Nishan Talukdar of Laban Bengalee Boys’ was second with 476 and Dipankar Barua, also of Laban Bengalee Boys’, was third with 468 marks.
Meanwhile, there were 20 students who appeared in the Vocational stream.
Schools in East Khasi Hills did reasonably well with a total of 33 having a 100 per cent pass percentage in Arts, 8 in Science and 6 in Commerce.
According to a statement by the MBOSE, the rank holders in the three streams of Arts, Science and Commerce are mostly from the Shillong institutions.
The top finisher from Garo Hills was Neev Sharma of Tura’s Don Bosco College in Arts (448 marks, fourth position) and Samridhya Das of the same institution in Science (450 marks, 10th position). No Garo Hills student made it to the top 10 of Commerce.
Two students of North Liberty Higher Secondary School in Jowai made it to the top 10 of the Science stream – Reesa Ee Christine Suting (461 marks, fifth position) and Rilanaika Sari (452 marks, ninth position).
