Two men were killed after the car they were travelling in crashed into the back of a truck on National Highway 6 in Umlyngkdait, Ri-Bhoi, in the wee hours of Monday.
According to information received from Nongpoh Traffic Police, the incident took place just after midnight when an Alto 800 (ML 05R 8598) proceeding towards Guwahati from Shillong hit the back of the truck.
The deceased were identified as Robi Paswan (30) from Lumparing in Shillong, who was driving the vehicle, and his friend Shri Prakash (26) of Bangalore.
The front of the car was completely flattened by the impact of the crash. The truck, meanwhile, immediately fled the scene after the accident. Police are continuing to investigate.
