In a series of operations, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals and two Indians from along the international border in East Khasi Hill, East Jaintia Hills and South Garo Hills districts.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, troops of the 172 Battalion conducted a special operation in the bordering area of East Jaintia Hills, leading to the apprehension of four Bangladeshi nationals. These individuals were attempting to enter India to attend a ring ceremony of their relatives who are already settled in the country. All apprehended persons are confirmed residents of Bangladesh, the BSF said.
Another three Bangladeshis were nabbed by troops of 22 Battalion in South Garo Hills while they were attempting to enter India in search of employment opportunities. Their movement was successfully intercepted, preventing unauthorized border crossing, the statement said.
Additionally, troops of 04 Battalion apprehended two Indian nationals along with a vehicle loaded with sugar, near the international border on Nayabazar-Pynursla PWD road in East Khasi Hills district, meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh.
The seized vehicle and individuals have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal proceedings, the BSF added.
