A band Magnificent Obsession won this year’s Meghalaya Icon 2025 out of nine dynamic bands from various districts.
The prestigious music competition took centre stage at Malki Ground bringing together the finest musical talents from across the state, competing not just for the coveted title but also to spread a powerful message of HIV/AIDS awareness through their performances.
Remnants and Ria Sharak emerged as the first and second runner-up respectively. Additionally, the Best Five bands received Rs 10,000 each as a token of recognition for their outstanding contributions.
Meghalaya Icon, a flagship initiative aimed at using music as a tool for social change, has been instrumental in educating and engaging young people in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Organised in collaboration with the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS), the event seeks to leverage the influence of music and youth culture to create awareness about HIV prevention, stigma reduction, and responsible behaviour.
To celebrate individual excellence, awards were also given for Best Vocalist, Best Bassist, Best Guitarist, Best Drummer and Best Theme Song (for a composition that best encapsulated the spirit of HIV/AIDS awareness).
These awards aimed to encourage musicians to continue using their art as a medium for advocacy and social change.
