KHADC MDC Deity Majaw suffered injuries after her car fell into a side drain in Ri-Bhoi district, police said today.
The accident occurred at Quinine along the national highway 6 on March 8 at around 11 pm.
The new MDC of Laitumkhrah-Malki constituency was travelling in a Grand i10 vehicle bearing registration number ML 05 S 1130. Her husband, Jeoffrey Pohlong and driver Aldoly Mawthoh also suffered injuries in the mishap.
Police said following the mishap all of them were immediately rushed to Bethany Hospital Outreach in Nongpoh for emergency medical attention. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were later referred to a more advanced medical facility for further treatment.
When contacted the mobile phone of the MDC was answered by her sister, who stated that her condition is stable and she will recover in two to three days.
Though authorities are yet to confirm if alcohol played any part in the accident, photos and videos suggested the presence of three beer cans inside the car, which is currently being stored at Nongpoh police station. Majaw’s sister said that it is a private car and the MDC was travelling with her husband. As for the presence of beer cans, they could have been put there by anyone, she stated, adding that no one has the right to poke into private matters.
