      The CAU-KVK in South Garo Hills organised a mini horticulture mela to conclude its Krishi Swarna Samriddhi Week (KSSW) at Warima playground today.

      Exhibits from different line departments, those of the District Agriculture Officer & District Horticulture Officer, Superintendent of Fisheries and organisations viz the College of Community Science and MTTC & VTC, Tura, ATMA, MSRLS, Chokpot FPC, SHGs and progressive farmers were showcased at the mela.

      District Horticulture Officer TM Momin who attended the programme as the chief guest enlightened farmers about the importance of FPOs/FPCs in improving access to market, finance, quality inputs and value addition.

      District Veterinary Officer Dr. HB Marak reinforced the mission for agricultural and rural development in the district and expressed the importance of such melas to uplift the farming community.

      Dean of the College of Community Science Dr. Jyoti V Vastrad who was the special guest appreciated the efforts of KVK, South Garo Hills for implementing various externally aided projects, skill development training and demonstrations for the benefit of the farming community.

      KVK Principal Scientist and Head Dr. Athokpam Haribhushan highlighted the various activities undertaken during the KSSW and the significant achievements since inception of KVK, South Garo Hills.

      Altogether 247 farmers were given bee boxes, shade net and UV poly film and rose cans during the programme.

      A booklet entitled “Technical Know-How in Vanilla” and an extension folder entitled “Floating Fish Feed as Supplementary Fish Feed in Carp Culture” was also released on the occasion.

      During the weeks programme, which commenced from February 24, the KVK hosted programmes like technology showcase,  method demonstrations on natural farming, oyster mushroom cultivation, Vegetative Propagation in Khasi Mandarin, Water Quality Testing and Farm Made Fish Feed Preparation and feeding techniques, Azolla Cultivation and Farmers Scientist interaction sessions, animal health camps and distribution of soil health cards, planting materials, vegetable seed kits and rose cans benefitting more than 465 farmers.
