The state is gearing up to celebrate the 76th Republic Day with government buildings being illuminated for the occasion and elaborate security arrangements have been put in place.
The East Khasi Hills district police is conducting heavy checking at all points in the city including combing operations and also intensified patrolling within the district to thwart any attempt to disrupt the Republic Day.
The Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem has sought the co-operation of the public even as police requested them to contact the nearest police station or control room +91 6009196479 or dial 112 for swift police response.
The Raj Bhavan in Shillong, has been opened for public on Saturday from 1pm to 5pm and on January 26 from 3pm to 8pm.
Also in collaboration with the Shillong Agri Horticulture Society and the Directorate of Horticulture, a first-ever flower show was organized at Raj Bhavan.
The event was inaugurated by Meghalaya Governor C.H. Vijayashankar.
In his remarks, Governor C.H. Vijayashankar emphasized that the Raj Bhavan belongs to the people of Meghalaya and announced that the doors of Raj Bhavan will remain open to visitors for more than just two days a year.
Currently, the Raj Bhavan is open to the public only on January 26 and August 15.
The Governor also announced that the flower show would become an annual event at Raj Bhavan.
During the event, more than 300 exhibits were showcased by 30 members of the Shillong Agri Horticulture Society.
Meanwhile, Governor CH Vijayashankar will unfurl the National Flag and take salute at the ceremonial parade at Shillong, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at Tura.
