A Garo group has blamed the Border Security Force (BSF) for illegal infiltration into the State.
The Garo Ominscience for Ethinic Renaisane and Awakening (GOERA), Nongalbibra unit has written to the Home Minister stating that the BSF have been neglecting its duties of safeguarding the international border.
The group said Bangladeshis continue to illegally enter the country through Gillagora, West Khasi Hills district, and other districts situated along the international border. “Recent viral videos have highlighted this issue, and it is alarming to see the blatant disregard for our country’s borders and the prevailing situation in Bangladesh,” the group said.
“The Border Security Force (BSF) has been entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding our borders, but it appears that they have been neglecting their duties. As a result, illegal immigrants are entering our country unchecked, posing a significant threat to national security,” GOERA added.
It also suggested the government to take immediate action to address the issue by investigating into the “negligence” of BSF personnel, to increase the presence of BSF personnel along the India-Bangladesh border, particularly in the Gillagora area, installation of CCTV cameras and other surveillance equipment to monitor the border and detect illegal crossings.
