The West Jaintia Hills District Hub for Empowerment of Women under the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the Block Mission Management Unit, (MSRLS) Laskein block inaugurated the 10 year celebration of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ programme yesterday.
Members of SHGS, Asha and Aganwadis, Block Development Officer, Laskein Block, Child Development Project Officer, ICDS Laskein Block, and the officials from the District Mission Management Unit and Block Mission. Management Unit attended the programme.
The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is the flagship programme of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, which was launched in 2015. It aims to address concerns about gender discrimination and women empowerment in the country.
The name Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao translates to ‘Save the girl child, educate the girl child’. The scheme aims to educate citizens against gender bias and improve the efficacy of welfare services for girls.
The scheme was implemented in West Jaintia Hills district in 2023 and is one of the components of the Mission Shakti Schemes implemented by District Hub for Empowerment of Women
Laskein BDO F.R.Shadap hoped that the scheme will empower women and urged people to invest in the education of the girl child.
The programme also included cultural programmes performed by the SHGS and an oath taking ceremony pledge to eliminate gender-based discrimination and ensure girls child education.
