The Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya apprehended four Bangladeshis and three Indian touts near the international border in East Khasi Hills district.
The BSF in a statement today said the Bangladeshi nationals were attempting to cross into India on January 12. During preliminary questioning, it was revealed that the individuals were planning to settle in India and had sought the assistance of the three Indian nationals to facilitate their illegal movement within the country.
All the apprehended individuals were handed over to the police station in Dawki for legal action.
On the same day, vigilant troops of the 1st Battalion, BSF apprehended an Indian national and seized elephant tusks meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
The seized items were handed over to the District Forest Office, Baghmara.
