A vehicle ferrying tourists from Assam was involved in a car accident at Mawkdok and received help from an unusual quarter – the convoy of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and that of cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.
The two dignitaries were returning to Shillong from the recent cabinet retreat held in Sohra. Two individuals in the tourist vehicle suffered minor injuries, a lucky escape as the car ended up on its roof.
A doctor attached to the CM attended the victims and an ambulance was called to take them to hospital.
On social media this act of the Good Samaritan was appreciated but some members of the public noted that the same level of care and attention from VIPs was missing after the road traffic accident during the Cherry Blossom Festival late last year when the rider of a motorbike died in a collision with a vehicle in the convoy of cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh. The CM’s convoy was also part of that cavalcade of dignitaries.
