Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) executive member Fantin Joseph Lakadong has said that the online system has significantly improved the collection of professional tax that has seen an increase of about Rs 4 lakh.
Replying to a question raised by Opposition Leader Titosstarwell Chyne during the winter session of the house today, Lakadong informed that the district council has collected over Rs 10.68 crore as professional tax for the current financial year up to November 2024.
“The amount collected through the online process from April 2024 to November 2024 was Rs 7.23 crore, compared to Rs 7.19 crore collected during the same period in 2023,” he stated.
Meanwhile, KHADC CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem informed that the total revenue collected from various heads of revenue has exceeded Rs 38.22 crore.
He said that the council has not yet received its shares from motor vehicle revenues. While the State government had released Rs 20 crore in royalty shares from major minerals in June 2024, it has withheld Rs 4.57 crore for the upcoming district council elections.
Syiem also provided details about other revenue sources. He informed that approximately Rs 3 crore in trade-license fees from April to October 2024 was collected and over Rs 47 lakh from land registrations, Rs 57 lakh from forestry, and Rs 2 lakh from civil works, among others.
Furthermore, he informed that a grant of Rs 11, 52,000 was provided as financial assistance to primary schools that do not receive teacher grants from the State government.
He stated that the budget for two schools in a constituency is Rs 25 lakhs.
