The Meghalaya Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan School Association (MSSASA) today unanimously decided to withdraw its protests that it had planned to hold.
“We will continue the discussions with the state government,” MSSASA president Aristotle Rymbai said.
The general meeting of the association, which was held at Students’ Field in Jaiaw, also decided to request the state government to exempt all SSA teachers who have joined on or before July 1, 2020 from clearing the Meghalaya Teachers’ Eligibility Test (MTET).
“We took this decision because, as per the notification issued by the state government on July 1, 2020, it was clearly stated that from this date onwards MTET is mandatory,” Rymbai told reporters after the general meeting.
He also said that the association decided that the government should constitute an empowered committee for further discussion on the issue of SSA teachers and to come up with a policy pertaining to their job security.
“The members of this empowered committee should be from the Law, Personnel, Finance, Planning and Education Departments and also from members of the association,” Rymbai said.
