Congress leader Manuel Badwar has stated that the party lost the Gambegre by-election due to various factors, including money power.
Badwar stated that for the National People’s Party (NPP), success in the Garo Hills by election is essential; otherwise, they risk entering a downward spiral.
“They played hard, and there was a considerable amount of money involved, including the use of the entire government machinery and its schemes,” he told Highland Post.
Badwar pointed out that Saleng Sangma, the newly elected Member of Parliament, also did not have sufficient time to fully dedicate himself during the campaign.
He also noted that the reasons for the Trinamool Congress (TMC) standing second was that the candidate has contested Gambegre multiple times and has a secured loyal voter base, in addition to being a strong candidate.
Badwar admitted that for the Congress to lose the Gambegre seat is a setback. However he said party workers in the State remain strong, and many have joined the party. “We need to work even harder to revive our organization and strengthen our grassroots levels,” he said.
He concluded by stating that politics always experience fluctuations, with its inherent ups and downs.
