A workshop on “Safe Handling and Use of Explosives at Mines” was held for mine officials and workmen handling and using explosives in organised limestone mines of Assam and Meghalaya in Guwahati yesterday.
The workshop was held under the aegis of Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Guwahati Region at the Star Club community hall to enhance awareness.
Presentations were shared by A. K. Mishra, Director of Mines Safety (DMS), Guwahati Region and G. Sanjay Kumar, Director of Mines Safety (DMS) from the Eastern Zone, Sitarampur.
An in-depth overview of safe explosive handling and usage practices was discussed, which was further enriched by the presentations from representatives of various mines in the region on the best practices they adopt on the safe handling and usage of explosives in their respective mines.
Ankur Rathod, Assistant Manager, Star Cement, Manoj Kumar Singh, Mines Manager, Dalmia Cement (Bharat), Krushna Chandra Sahu, Mines Manager, Meghalaya Cement and Shisupal Singh, Blasting officer of Lafarge Holcim also gave their presentations during the workshop.
Participants also had the opportunity to engage in a constructive discussion with DGMS officers, exploring best practices and challenges related to storage of explosives and its usage, transportation and other statutory provisions related to explosives.
About 80 officials and workmen from various mines of different organisations participated in the workshop. The attendees expressed their hope for future workshops on various safety topics to continue enhancing safety protocols across the region.
