Social activist Greneth M Sangma has urged authorities to clear pending income certificates for students.
“Despite multiple attempts by students and parents, these certificates remain pending due to the pending signature of the Income Certificates Officer, exacerbated by bad road conditions and financial crises faced by those from rural areas,” he said in a letter to the South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner.
He said that the students require these certificates to apply for scholarships and admission to colleges and universities outside the state. The current process demands numerous documents, including land pattas, current bills, PAN cards, and IDs, causing significant delays, he added.
Sangma suggested the DC to simplify the process by accepting parent’s ID cards, students’ school certificates and income proof documents and minimising required documents to alleviate burden on students.
He urged the DC to look into the difficulties faced by rural residents and to clear all certificates within a week before the scholarship application deadline ends on November 30, 2024.
